The Ruins / Marker Dedication Service

Tuesday, March 22, 2016

I was invited to my very first Marker Dedication Service on Sunday, March 20th at The Ruins in Stateburg, South Carolina.  [Side Note : The Ruins is beautiful!  I first visited The Ruins in December 2015 and going back on Sunday felt like going home.]  The Colonial Dames, Teige Cantey Chapter, held the dedication service.  The service began with the pledge to the American flag and the pledge to the South Carolina flag (another first).  Colonel Rett Summerville, owner of The Ruins, gave a brief history of The Ruins and his super sweet/nice/kind/welcoming wife, Pat, shared a few words about The Ruins and the dedication and thanked everyone for attending the event.  The marker was unveiled and it is just beautiful!

In the above photo from left to right is Colonel Rett Summerville, owner of The Ruins, 2 members of the Colonial Dames, and Mrs. Harper, former resident of The Ruins and descendant of the original owners of The Ruins.
All the Colonial Dames in attendance.  There was a lovely turn out for this event!  After the Marker Dedication Service a reception was held at the house.
(this house is a dream, right?)

The reception after the service was superb!  Homemade yummy goodness is the only way to describe the delicious food at this reception!

The kindness of Colonel Rett & Pat Summerville, the goal of preserving history shown by the Colonial Dames, and the love for Rett & Pat displayed by guest was what made this event so very special!

Happy Travels,
-A
