The Second Annual Christmas at The Ruins

Sunday, December 6, 2015

Welcome to Christmas at The Ruins!  This was my very first visit to The Ruins and it was amazing!  It definitely goes without saying that this mansion and property are BEAUTIFUL!  The Ruins is located in Stateburg, South Carolina and was built in the 1790s.    A previous owner of The Ruins was Revolutionary War Hero, John Mayrant who served under John Paul Jones on the Bon Homme Richard.  Another owner of the property was Robert and Videau (Singleton) DeVeaux.  The current owners of The Ruins, Colonel and Mrs. Summerville, have done a wonderful job restoring The Ruins.  Also, they hosted Christmas at The Ruins, an event which was free to the public.  The Ruins saw over 600 people on Saturday, all of which came out to see the beautiful mansion, a small museum with interesting artifacts that had been found on the property or were artifacts that would have been used on the property,
the Christmas decorations (which were live greenery from the property),
the vintage Model A's presented by the Palmetto A's of South Carolina,
meet the author, David Gottfred, and purchase his new book, Kensington.  I was about to jump out my skin to purchase this book!  Kensington is on my list of places to see.  However, it is currently closed to the public due to restoration work that is needed to the mansion due to water damage.  I am hopeful that Kensington will open again to the public at which time I will be one of the many people lined up to see the beauty that is Kensington!

Christmas at The Ruins was a wonderful way to start the holiday season!  If there is a 3rd Annual Christmas at The Ruins, I hope to see y'all there!

Happy Travels,
-A
